The charity Belive was set up in 2018 by Theresa and received charity status in June 2019, to support people who live in Medway aged 18 plus living with a mild-moderate learning disability. Theresa also has a personal story about why she set up BELIVE, as her daughter has a mild learning disability and suffers from anxiety. At the time, she had great difficulty finding a befriending service in Medway to suit her needs. This gave her the passion and drive to do a small-scale qualitative piece of research, aimed at social workers and care providers. This indicated there was a need for an independent befriending service in Medway, either face to face, over the telephone, or both. This also indicated the service was needed during the week, evenings, and weekends. The service now covers the whole of Kent.
The Belive Logo
Theresa visited the Adult Education Center in Rochester to talk about Belive to a group of students living with learning disabilities. Also, she wanted the students to come up with a logo because she felt they should be part of Belive and be included in its development. She initiated a logo design competition, and the students were happy to be included in this fun creative process. There were several applications submitted, the Trustees felt this was the best. As it reflects the values of Belive: diversity, person-centered, and inclusivity.
Belive is a member of the Small Charities Coalition (SSC). The Small Charities Coalition helps small organisations with a social purpose to change lives, improve communities and broaden people’s opportunities. Read more about the SSC – Home | Small Charities
